Article information
The goal of this study is to analyse the influence of single daily dose efavirenz on antiretroviral therapy compliance, and the clini - cal consequences deriving thereof. To meet this goal an observational, prospective study in 52 patients who received efavirenz as an added part of their active antiretroviral therapy. Compliance was analysed both before and after therapy change, as was patient clinical evolution according to virological response. Results show that 65.3% of patients improved their compliance, and 16 patients (30.8%) did so reaching figures above 95%. Clinically, this adherence improvement resulted in 85.3% of patients showing virological response (either complete or partial). Overall, from a baseline 9 patients (17.3%) with adherence > 95% we obtained a result of 20 patients (38.5%) with adherence > 95%. Results highlight the importance of single daily dosing as a facilitating factor of antiretroviral therapy compliance, thus with a potential for clinical effectiveness enhancement.
